LAKE ORTA TOURIST INFORMATION - The Tourist Train in Orta San Giulio - Lake Orta Travel Guide

Many travellers staying in Stresa and on lake Maggiore often miss a visit to this enchanting corner of Italy and this is really a shame! When planning a vacation on lake Maggiore, a day-trip to Orta San Giulio and lake Orta should be planned.

A whole day would be perfect, but if you are run out of time you could spend a half-day on lake Orta. At least you will get a taste of it!

The little Tourist Train

The ancient village of Orta San Giulio can be reached, for non-residents, only on foot. For tourists and visitors, groups and individuals, that come to lake Orta for a day-trip and don't want to walk from the coach parking and car parking down to the centre of Orta, it's possible to cacth the tourist train that runs between the parking areas near the Hotel Villa Crespi to the closest point to the centre. The tourist train also runs between the parking areas and the Sacred Mount - Sacro Monte - of Orta, located on top of the hill.

It is even possible to hire the little train for a tour through the painted village of Legro, which i s part of Orta san Giulio, but it's situated a little higher in the hills (where Orta train station is located).

Booking is required if you are a group and there is a charge for the train service.

There are two tourist trains operating and each train can carry a group up to 50 / 55 passengers.
